This is a really well done mograph that will ruin you in the best way.
Prevailing City is a window into my creative journey. By day I am a video producer and by night I moonlight as a frustrated artist. My studio and home are nestled in the down town of Twin Falls Idaho, a city that has yet to realize it's potential. I am currently working primarily in video and wood, but I'm really enjoying experimenting with metal, wheat pastings, stop motion animation and any other media that comes my way. I've built close to 200 pieces of furniture for designers from San Francisco to Philadelphia, now it's time to pull back and work on odd pieces and hopefully some legacy pieces. Enjoy the journey via pictures and video and please forgive my lack of craft when it comes to prose. Jake Schumacher

Tonight I picked up the plywood for the bookcases. After much deliberation, I’ve decided to go with oak to match the floors. I’m not a big fan of oak but I think it’s going to look better to match it than contrast it. The custom stain on the floors does look pretty good and I’m pretty sure it will look great on the bookshelves.

Tom Bush swung by and spent an hour with me, wiring in the igniter, fan and 3 way switch for the fireplace. You won’t find a nicer guy who’s always helping someone.
I’m hoping that by posting progress pictures I’ll be more inclined to work on this at least a half hour everyday.

I found the original picture in Evernote that started this whole project. I love the use of metal in interiors and the wood storage really makes the piece. I found this image originally digging through google images. I can’t tell if the walls are concrete, portland cement, or plaster. Regardless, they are beautiful.

Here is one of the inspiration photos for the fireplace. Elena Colombo is the designer. She has a great post in the Contemporist were you can see more of her fire features. I’m planning on doing a cold steel front with birch or preferably maple shelves. I don’t think I am going to rust the whole face but I may use some chemicals that ad rust to paint a design with. I’m thinking about maybe using a sketch of my wife I did 10 years ago when we were in Sydney together…times flies.

In an attempt to make the winters a little more bearable, I’m getting going on the fire place again. I was hopping to have it installed last November but that’s how my projects go. I’ve got some momentum on this one the last few days and it’s feeling good. I’ll be posting some progress pictures and inspiration pictures as well. Here is the rough sketch for the bookcase cabinet around the fireplace.

I don’t get to spend much time in Illustrator yet every time I do, I have a blast. I looked at this poster as one frame in a video. Usually I deal with thousands of frames in a project and so to take time and trick one frame out seemed easy and fun. I don’t think I reached the full potential of this idea but sometimes to get that last 20% can take longer than I have to give because since there are still thousands of frames waiting for my attention.
